Brace removal day!

With fixed braces, we call this ‘debonding’ and this is a really exciting day for all of our team. This is where we remove the brackets and wires. We also polish off any glue and fit a fixed wire retainer to the back of your teeth. At this point it’s advisable for you to go for a full check-up with your dentist and visit the hygienist too. Many people choose to have their teeth whitened – either in-surgery, or at home – when their braces are removed, for a polished and gleaming smile.

Do I need to wear a retainer after my treatment is completed?

After any type of orthodontic treatment, a retainer will be provided. This has to be worn for an indefinite period to prevent any relapse. Retainers can either be removable or fixed to the teeth – in most cases we recommend having both. Now your teeth are straight, if you don’t wear your retainers your teeth are likely to drift towards their original position. Retainers should be kept clean by brushing them in cold soapy water and using Retainer Brite once a week. Avoid cleaning with toothpaste or putting them in the dishwasher or boiling water. If you have any problems with your retainers, arrange to see your orthodontist straight away.

Does my journey end here?

At elleven, we will continue to see you for one year after your braces have been removed to check the condition of your retainers. Don’t forget to bring your removable retainers to your appointments.
